I meant to submit this last year when actually working on the project for my Classical Japanese Literature class, but I'm lame, and did not.
FIRST WARNING: The main character, Yuki, is male. He's an
onnagata from... I should know the era, but I don't remember.

Anyway. Basically, he plays female roles on stage despite being male because in kabuki, starting from a certain period in time, females were no longer allowed on stage for a variety of reasons-- not the least of which being how easily these actresses ended up doing some extra backstage service in the ever-popular industry of prostitution. Similar to modern day Takarazuka
otokoyaku, these
onnagata would develop strong fan-bases, and if a boy managed to actually become a really successful
onnagata, then he could become quite wealthy.
SECOND WARNING: To whoever might read this ten-page manga, the other main character ended up inadvertently looking too much like Shikamaru. -_- Really, he's just supposed to have shoulder-length black hair that he ties back in a short, fluffy ponytail for work. But I was working on this while babysitting, and my charge was watching Naruto at the time, so I'm sure that affected how the art came out. Sigh. This is NOT INTENTIONAL, so please don't rag on me about it, as everyone else I've shown seems to do.
The comic is ten pages plus a cover, and took... a week? A weekend? Something like that. I procrastinated. The cover is the only page in colour-- the rest is black, white and gray. Primarily white because I'm horridly lazy.
I will eventually upload a clean version of it with my personal information up top removed. XD I still have the .psd file at home. But I've been forgetting to upload this for a year, so I figured I should do it now while I still can...
The
brush and image for the background came from a stock picture site, but I can't remember if it was a miscellaneous website or somewhere on deviantArt. If I was smart enough to keep the creator information saved on the .psd file like I sometimes do, then I'll update this with the information. Otherwise, if they're your stock images, please let me know. ~_~ Sorry!

Anyway, I like his hand a lot for some reason. XD It's well-formed. And he looks very composed and calm, and has such lovely clean lines... The overall effect is also fairly soothing, too. Though it is quite pink. XD It suits it, just looks like sunset or something.
I totally forgot he's albino!
His hand... is... a... generic... hand? O_o He's supposed to look very composed and calm. ^_^; He'd be quite OOC if he looked all
Yeeees, he's albino. That's why he's named Yuki. ^_^;
the pastel colors are rather nice. i like the shading most on this.
was this for kominz's class? like all the mizenkei, renyoukei, etc.? i think kitsuko-chan was taking the same time i did cause we did our final project together with another one or two and split up translating a rather long piece.
Yay~ thank you! But why would you like the shading? XD It's like, the simplest, most basic cell shading possible. XD;;;
simple is good sometimes. its because it works well for the simplicity of the overall character drawing. if you had super-detailed shading, it would offset the picture. i find that a good colored composition, regardless of quality, has a balanced lineart, color, and shading aspects. if one part was better than another part, then it would look somewhat bad. i hope that makes sense.
